I think this is a great idea.

Employers should dump performance reviews.

Then again, in my many years of employment, I can think of three performance reviews I've had; only one of which resulted in a raise. They were all glowing, but still SO STRESSFUL.

Do away with them!

Jess, I totally agree. I am now a supervisor and performance reviews and salary reviews are totally separate. It is the stupidest thing ever. Sadly I don't see this change any time soon although we've gone down to once a year from twice a year at my company.

Totally agree. I think they give you a written one to peruse and if you have issues, have a meeting about it.

I agree! I'm total shit and don't like giving people formal opportunities to tell me as much.

God, twice a year would be a nightmare.

Discussing your employees' performance on an ongoing basis is such a novel idea, apparently.

Reuben, if you can get away with being total shit and only being reminded of it in a formal setting once a year, I'd like you to tell me your secret.
